The Law Blogger’s Scholarship Essay

Many people in see the death penalty as a horrible and cruel thing to do to human beings. I, however, disagree with this thought. The death penalty is only given to those who have done the most heinous of crimes. It is a punishment given to those who have killed more than they can count, who have no urge to stop the violence the find pleasing, and those who do not think they should stop. Most often, the men, or women, on death row are serial killers. They have taken the lives of innocent people without a thought or regret.

Many people disagree with the death penalty because they see it as inhumane and cruel. The death penalty is actually as humane as it can get when taking someones life. Most often it is death by lethal injection. This means that the prisoner is laid out on a table, hooked up to a saline drop, and then injected with a liquid that basically puts the person to sleep. It is painless, and is just like taking a never ending nap.  This shows that the death penalty is in fact very humane.

People always say that the death penalty is just like committing murder yourself. I disagree with this statement. Murder is most often an act of hatred and rage. The death penalty is out of fear of societies safety. The fact that a prisoner is put on death  shows they are a danger to all people and should not be allowed to see the light of day.
